New book touts benefits of standing for office workers

June 8, 2007—Trinity River Publishing announces the publication of a book by prominent ergonomic researcher, Dr. Mark Benden titled, “Could You Stand to Lose?”

The book promises that office worker can lose 20 pounds in one year and become more productive simply by standing at their desks instead of sitting all the time.

According to Benden, research shows that standing for two and a half hours a day can burn an extra 350 calories. Carried out for 10 workdays, this is a pound of weight loss. Over a year, that is more than 20 pounds of weight loss.

Benden is executive vice president of Neutral Posture, a company that focuses on improved ergonomics. He has helped the company create a seating system, nTune, designed for both standing and sitting.

Benden’s book, available for $14.94 from Trinity River, details how to find or create a “stand-biased workstation” that allows workers to stand for part of the day.
