New DuPont products improve energy efficiency of commercial buildings

August 6, 2007 — DuPont has introduced new sustainable products that will help increase the protection and energy efficiency of commercial buildings, according to the company.

DuPont Tyvek CommercialWrap D and DuPont Thru-Wall Flashing will enhance protection of the building envelope by helping to improve energy efficiency and protection from the elements – assisting in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), says DuPont.

The national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable commercial buildings is defined by the US Green Building Council as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). By specifying DuPont Tyvek, commercial buildings can earn credit toward certification in the categories of Energy & Atmosphere (EA), Materials & Resources (MR), Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) and Innovation & Design Process (ID), the company says.

The newest component of the DuPont Tyvek Weather Barrier System, DuPont Tyvek CommercialWrap D is a vapor permeable weather barrier with a specially engineered textured surface that helps create a more efficient drainage plane. The product offers many of the benefits of DuPont Tyvek CommercialWrap, such as UV resistance, high tear and wind load resistance, and the added advantage of an enhanced drainage plane.

Serving as the first layer of air and moisture protection after the exterior faade, DuPont Tyvek CommercialWrap D helps keep drafts and wind out of wall cavities, thereby reducing the energy needed for heating and cooling.

To further enhance the DuPont Tyvek Weather Barrier System, DuPont Thru-Wall Flashing is being introduced as a self-adhered membrane made with DuPont Elvaloy, a copolymer that adds improved flexibility and durability. This product bridges the wall assembly, creating a drainage path to the exterior of commercial buildings. DuPont Thru-Wall Flashing is compatible with the entire DuPont system, is easy to install and provides superior water drainage.
