New EPA Web portal to offer green advice to retailers

August 20, 2008 The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to launch a Web portal to information and resources about environmental compliance, pollution prevention and other green issues specific to retailers, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) said.

The organization said it and others representing the retail industry have been working with the EPA for several months to create the portal, which is expected to launch later this year.

RILA said the participation of its Sustainability Initiative, which was formed last year and includes association members and non-members, has been key to the collaboration with the EPA on the industry-specific project. The initiative seeks to help leading retailers pursue environmentally-conscious business practices and activities in addition to meeting environmental standards.
