Recent research shows that laptop computer sales are increasing at three times the rate of desktop computers and that three out of every four laptops purchased replace desktop computing systems. At NeoCon 2000, 3M responded to the needs of mobile computer users by demonstrating the new 3M Adjustable Notebook Platform, the 3M notebook Palm Pads, and the 3M Notebook Privacy Filter, in addition to its complete line of ergonomic solutions.
3M’s Adjustable Notebook Platform has an “adjustable wedge” design that angles the notebook towards the user to improve wrist angle and viewing posture. It also features a built-in mousing area with a gel-filled wrist rest so that a standard-sized mouse may be used, as many find a standard-sized mouse to be more comfortable.
The 3M Notebook Palm Pads cushion typically hard, built-in palm rests using a soothing combination of medical fabric and therapeutic foam. They feature repositionable adhesive so they can be moved again and again and compress flat for easy storage.
The 3M Notebook Privacy Filter protects sensitive data when you use your notebook computer in public areas. Only the user can see on-screen documents. From the side, others see only a dark, blank screen. The filter attaches and detaches easily, and can remain in place even when the notebook is closed.
3M Office Ergonomics is making available two additional new products this year: 3M Polarizing Lighting Products and the 3M RenaissanceTM Mouse. 3M Polarizing Lighting Products include both desk top task lights and filter sleeves that condition existent fluorescent lighting. Both are designed to improve worker comfort. The desktop task lamps also use less energy than traditional incandescent lamps.
The 3M Renaissance Mouse features a “handshake” design that helps keep workers’ wrists and forearms in a more neutral position, unlike the palm-down posture of most mousing devices. The Renaissance Mouse has been clinically proven to reduce discomfort to users as well as reducing strain on the nerve running through the carpal tunnel and to the muscles of the forearm.
