New federation to promote FM worldwide

November 25, 2005—Representatives from the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), the Facility Management Association of Australia (FMA Australia), and the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) met in Philadelphia in October to continue work on a formal alliance of facilities management-related associations.

The vision of the alliance is: “To be the worldwide community of organizations that provides leadership in facilities management.” The alliance is envisioned to be a unified voice to promote the FM profession globally, rather than to deliver professional development programs or research projects—existing organizations will continue to provide those services.

The new organization, which will be incorporated as an International Non-profit Association registered in Belgium, has been registered as “Global FM,” and now has an information Web site that includes the Position Statement created in Philadelphia. The founding partners will post information on the site, and are seeking feedback during the formation period.
