New fire safety proposal could save millions for UK businesses

August 9, 2002—The UKs fire safety minister recently published a consultation document aimed at making fire safety law simpler, ratified and consolidated.

The modernization of legislation reportedly could significantly reduce the burden on businesses throughout the country.

The reform of fire safety legislation will mean businesses will no longer be required to obtain a fire certificate—or pay the administration fee to get it. This will save business 1.7m a year. Fire authorities will continue to inspect premises and ensure that fire precautions are adequate.
