January 16, 2006—The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has delayed the start of the fire safety law that was approved in June 2005 and affects all non-domestic premises in England and Wales.
The reason for the delay is to give business and fire safety experts more time to get ready for new regulations. The main effect of the order will be a move toward greater emphasis on fire prevention in all non-domestic premises, including the voluntary sector and self-employed people with premises separate from their homes. A new date will be announced as soon as possible, the office says.
