A new work-based Certificate in Facilities Management has been launched by the Facilities Management Graduate Centre (FMGC) at Sheffield Hallam University.
Learning and assessment take place within the context of the workplace and is designed to meet specific needs of individuals and companies. Delivered over two years, the Certificate requires no previous academic qualifications, only that applicants are over 21.
22 students attended the first induction course and workshops and a further intake is planned for September this year. Ten of the first students have been sponsored by NHS Estates in a project to develop the facilities and estates management capabilities within the NHS. Another seven have been sponsored by the Post Office Property Holdings and the rest come from a variety of organisations.
Lynda Hinxman, director of the FMGC education programmes, said: “This certificate fills a gap in the market for an undergraduate FM qualification equivalent to the postgraduate programme we have been running successfully for many years.”
Course leader Phil Askham said: “In developing the new course, we spoke in depth to existing students and to the employers of prospective students and, as a result of these discussions, completely overhauled its content, mode of delivery and mechanism for providing student support.” For more information, contact FMGC.
