New guidance on fire safety management published by Workplacelaw Network

June 10, 2002—The Workplacelaw Network has published new guidance on fire safety management, which will help employers, property and health and safety managers come to terms with practical compliance issues relating to the fire regulations. The publication is written by fire safety engineering specialists Lawrence Webster Forrest.

The 296-page publication covers fire safety management in the workplace, including: legislation, risk assessment, emergency planning, staff training, the conflict with security, disabled people and fire safety, preventing arson, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and safety signage.

The trend in fire safety legislation is towards the employer being responsible for the identification and management of risk. The problem for employers and workplace managers is that fire safety law in the UK has developed in a fragmented, uncoordinated manner, resulting in over 120 pieces of legislation dealing with fire safety and fire precautions in one form or another.

Copies of the “LWF Guide to Fire Safety Management Law and Practice” (price 49.50) can be ordered from the Workplacelaw Network at 08/70-777-0202.
