March 7, 2005—The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced the publication of the new guidance document for asbestos analysts: Asbestos: The analysts guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures.
The document replaces guidance notes EH10, MDHS39 and MDHS77, and brings together and updates previously published technical guidance on asbestos sampling, analytical methods and procedures for clearance in asbestos removal. The document also contains specific guidance on personal issues for analysts including qualifications and training, selection and use of personal protective equipment, and decontamination procedures.
It also contains full details of the forthcoming World Health Organization analytical method for the evaluation of asbestos fibers in air. This method will replace the existing European Reference Method when the Asbestos Worker Protection Directive is implemented in the UK in 2006.
The cost is 16.50. To order the guidelines, visit the HSE books Web site.
