“New Jersey launches renewable energy, energy efficiency initiative”

New Jersey’s environmental officials and its gas and electric utilities recently launched a series of programs that will encourage statewide use of renewable energy resources, as well as energy efficiency for new home construction, low-income assistance, and commercial and industrial construction.

At the heart of the programs are financial incentives for residential and business customers who install energy efficient and renewable energy systems.

The state’s utilities will jointly administer both programs, making New Jersey the first state in the nation where all investor-owned utilities are working in a cooperative manner to deliver a comprehensive package of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs on a statewide basis.

The state Board of Public Utilities has voted to allocate $358 million over three years to fund the initiative.

Applications for the renewable energy and energy efficiency programs are available at the New Jersey Clean Energy Web site.
