The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities announced in March it would order a three-year proposal totaling more than $358 million in funding for new energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. Of this funding, 75 percent will go to the efficiency programs and 25 percent will be used to fund renewable energy projects, including rebates for consumers who install clean technologies such as fuel cells, solar electric systems, and wind generators in their homes and businesses.
The funding will be collected through the Societal Benefits Charge as specified in the Electric Discount and Energy Competition Act. The state says that impacts of this funding on electricity rates will be held to an approximate increase of less than one percent for most New Jersey customers.
