New public-private coalition to help protect critical infrastructure from terrorism

May 2, 2003—BOMA recently became a founding member of the Real Estate Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC), a public-private partnership between the federal government and the real estate industry for the purpose of exchanging information on terrorist threats and response planning.

ISACs are an effort by the federal government to identify critical infrastructures, and to provide those infrastructures with detailed security information in actionable time frames. ISACs are formed with the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC), a threat intelligence and warning component of the new Department of Homeland Security. Other ISACs exist for the chemical, energy, financial services, food, information technology, telecommunications, transportation and water industries.

Through the Real Estate ISAC, BOMA International is able to receive timely and complete advance warnings from the federal government to help members prepare for possible attacks.

BOMA International Executive Vice President Henry Chamberlain. “Having established a dialogue through the Real Estate ISAC, it is our hope that, over time, we will develop additional best practices for responding to security concerns and build upon the body of knowledge that we have already assembled and shared.”

BOMA International continues to work with the Real Estate ISAC to accomplish the ISAC’s goals. When complete, the ISAC site will encourage information sharing and analysis, facilitate threat reporting from the industry, and aggregate best practices in building security.
