New Scottish hospital FMs to use robots

July 20, 2007—A new hospital being built in the Forth Valley area of Scotland under a £300m private finance initiative (PFI) will use robots to transport hospital linen, waste, and medical equipment, according to a report from the E-Health Insider.

The hospital’s FM team will track the robots by camera, and a dedicated porter will accompany them. The robots will use separate corridors from patients, and will either follow metal strips on the floor or use infrared sensors.
