April 27, 2005—The Internal Biometrics Corporation introduced its Spartan Shield VPR (Vein Pattern Recognition) access control device at the recent International Security Conference convention in Las Vegas. Spartan Shield VPR uses the unchangeable, unique pattern of veins in a person’s hand or eyes for immediate identity verification.
IBC says that a person’s vein pattern is a unique marker, even for an identical twin. Since vein patterns are an internal biometric, they are much more difficult to “steal.” Identification is reportedly not affected by race, skin discolorations, hair, age spots, or even vinyl gloves.
Spartan Shield VPR is an easy-to-use, drop-in replacement for the familiar proximity card reader systems: the card reader is removed and its four wires are reconnected to the Shield, which is then mounted to the wall in place of the old reader.
