May 8, 2006—A recent survey, ‘Disaster Planning,’ conducted by the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans, has found that 52 percent of organizations surveyed have a disaster recovery or business continuity plan in place, while 27 percent are planning to have a plan in place within 12 months.
Sixty-seven percent of the organizations with plans have created or revised their plan recently, with 24 percent having created or revised their disaster recovery or business continuity plan because of pandemic flu concerns.
Although 34 percent of respondents have both communicated details of their plan to employees and implemented an exercise or drill to test the plan, 26 percent of respondents have neither communicated nor tested the plan.
The survey collected information from 261 US and Canadian multiemployer trust funds, corporations, public employers and professional service firms. For more information, visit the Web site of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans.
