August 14, 2002—New technologies are being added to the existing eight classes of energy-saving technologies that can qualify for 100 percent first-year allowances under the UK’s Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA) scheme, effective August 5, 2002. The new Energy Technology List includes: heat pumps for space heating; radiant and warm air heaters; solar thermal systems; compressed air equipment; refrigeration display cabinets and compressors.
The list of qualifying products and technologies originally included boilers, pipe insulation, thermal screens, Combined Heat and Power, lighting, motors, variable speed drives, and refrigeration equipment. The existing boiler class now includes efficient oil-fired condensing boilers, and the existing refrigeration category now includes cabinets and compressors.
