NIOSH develops lead-removal handwipe method

November 12, 2004—The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is refining the development of a novel cleansing and removal method for lead contamination on the skin. The method is designed to eliminate lead exposures detected by the earlier NIOSH-developed “Lead Surface Sampling Full Disclosure Kit.” Preliminary research has shown that this method is highly effective and performs better than traditional handwashing with soap and water and other commercial handwashing products.
