February 2, 2007—The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has released a new document addressing risks that sonographers face for developing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
Workplace Solutions: Preventing Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders in Sonography, DHHS (NIOSH) Publication No. 2006-148, provides NIOSH recommendations for appropriate engineering controls, work practices, hazard communication, and training to prevent these work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
The online publication gives a description of exposure, a case study, equipment and work practices to limit MSDs, training for ergonomic interventions, and related resources.
