February 2, 2011—The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has released research on the economic burden of occupational fatal injuries to civilian workers in the U.S., announced a partnership for retail worker safety and health, and released two other safety and health publications in recent weeks.

No. 2011-130, February 2011) adds an economic dimension to existing research efforts addressing the incidence and prevalence measures of loss associated with fatal occupational injury. This document continues NIOSH’s longstanding efforts in this area by presenting economic costs using revised methods and fatal occupational injury counts identified through the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) program.
- NIOSH and RILA Announce Partnership to Improve Worker Safety and Health 01-20-11 describes NIOSH’s new partnership with the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) to provide outreach, communication, and professional development opportunities in occupational safety and health to retail companies, supply partners and other industry stakeholders.

No. 2011-128, December 2010) (Spanish) / Prevencin de lesiones y muertes causadas por minicargadores describes in Spanish six deaths involving skid-steer loaders and recommends methods for preventing similar incidents, requesting assistance in preventing injuries and deaths among workers who operate, service, or work near skid-steer loaders.
