NIOSH topic page covers storm and flood cleanup hazards

October 23, 2002—The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has published a page on their Web site with links to information about hazards associated with storm and flood cleanup.

According to NIOSH, workers and volunteers involved in storm and flood cleanup activities should be aware of the potential dangers involved, and the proper safety precautions.

Work-related hazards that could be encountered include: Electrical Hazards, Carbon Monoxide, Musculoskeletal Hazards, Heat Stress, Motor Vehicles, Hazardous Materials, Fire, Confined Spaces, and Falls. The Web page contains links for all of the above hazards.
