North American Occupational Safety and Health week is May 6-12

In its continued efforts to raise awareness of the importance of effective workplace safety management programs, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has again joined with the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) and Mexico to support this annual event. Throughout the week of May 6-12, 2001, continent-wide events will occur highlighting safety professionals, companies, industries and communities as they display their commitment to occupational safety and health. The purpose of this week is to focus the attention of all employers, employees and the general public on the importance of preventing injury in the workplace.

Organizers are encouraging employers to participate with initiatives such as launching a new safety and health program, organizing an open house to focus on health and safety issues and promoting recognition programs for safety suggestions. More information can also be found at the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering or www.naoshweek.com.
