November 10, 2006—Nourison, a leading producer of handmade rugs, recently participated in the renovation of the historic US Grant Hotel in San Diego.
The landmark hotel, built in 1910 by Ulyses S. Grant Jr., now features custom versions of Nourison’s most prestigious collections throughout its guest rooms, suites, corridors and lobbies.
Nourison was chosen by the hotel design team and Adi Pourfard, President of Aja Rugs of La Jolla, CA, to create and produce customized versions of its renowned Grand Parterre and Hamilton House Collections, two of the companys most luxurious lines.
In a detailed design effort, Nourison created inset, bordered patterns that allowed many of the rooms and halls to be woven to specification in one seamless piece with design islands, borders and end caps already intact and fit to size.
Nourison also employed special dyeing and weaving techniques to emulate old world handmade floorcovering, capturing the historical essence of the property, a stated requirement of the restoration effort. All carpets were specially woven on state of the art face to face Wilton looms in 100% New Zealand wool at Nourison’s two weaving plants, said the company.
