February 1, 2002—Nova Biologicals Inc., a testing laboratory headquartered in Conroe, Texas, recently became the first laboratory in the nation to offer indoor air toxin testing, commonly known in the medical community as Cytotoxicity (Human Cell Toxicity) Testing.
The lab is now offering the test to several entities that need to accurately and scientifically determine air quality. Such entities include certified industrial hygienists, homebuilders, homeowners, insurance companies, schools, property owners, healthcare facilities, and industrial safety specialists.
The procedure involves collecting large amounts of indoor air and testing it on human lung tissue to determine toxicity. The test detects and identifies the presence of airborne harmful or toxigenic substances. This information can be used in proving liability or determining the cause of medical conditions and disease. According to the lab, the test is most useful as a screening test when other environmental assessments and/or testing have indicated the possibility of biological molds or chemical contamination.
The entire process is completed in seven to ten days. Nova Biologicals is a fully certified testing laboratory, and the testing protocols strictly adhere to US Pharmacopoeia (USP XXIV) guidelines.
