NREL awards $6 million for solar-cell research

The US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has awarded $6 million to eleven universities and five companies for research into non-conventional, photovoltaic technologies for creating electricity from sunlight. The goal of the research is to produce more efficient, less expensive solar electricity for consumers.

  • Ohio State University, $476,000

  • Princeton University, $391,000
  • Iowa State University, $375,000
  • University of Illinois, $355,000
  • California Institute of Technology, $346,000
  • University of California, Santa Cruz, $323,000
