August 12, 2002—In partnership with the National Association of Educational Buyers, the National Wildlife Federation’s (NWF) Campus Ecology program has launched a new campaign, Driving Sustainable Markets, to advance the markets for environmentally preferable products.
One feature of this campaign is the “Teach-In” consisting of a one-hour “on demand” Webcast taught by Kevin Lyons, director of procurement at Rutgers University and author of Buying for the Future.
The Webcast, which was available online starting April 10, 2002, will cover green purchasing at higher education institutions, focusing specifically on recycled paper, shade-grown coffee, green energy, and sustainably harvested wood.
As an added incentive, during designated times throughout the fall, course participants are invited to interact with green purchasing “online experts,” including Kevin Lyons. The “Teach-In” course will provide a brief overview on each topic, referring the user to the informational resources section of the course, and consisting of sources for products and other information. It will also include brief quizzes, a couple of survey questions, and brief course evaluation.
Course participants will receive a complimentary copy of Buying for the Future by Kevin Lyons, a complimentary copy of “Buying Green the Easy Way” (an NWF Campus Ecology Resource Packet), and a certificate of completion.
Support from the Town Creek Foundation enables NWF to offer the “Teach-In” to NAEB and NWF Campus Ecology members at a discounted rate of $25. The rate for non-members of either organization is $40. For more information visit NWF’s Campus Ecology program.
