December 14, 2005—NxtPhase T&D Corporation, a provider of digital relays, recorders, and fiber optic solutions for the electric power industry, announced that NxtPhase optical current, voltage and combined metering sensors have been approved by the New York State Public Service Commission for use in revenue metering.
The current and voltage sensors were tested at the National Grid / Niagara Mohawk High Voltage Test Lab located in Liverpool New York. Approval has been granted for the full range of voltage classes offered from 69 to 765 kV with current ratings from 1 to 3000 A for revenue metering applications.
Andrea Johnston, CEO, remarked: “Our advanced relay and recorder solutions are already widely used in New York. We are pleased to now offer optical metering systems to this market and see the trend of global adoption of this new technology continue at a brisk pace.”
NxtPhase is the culmination of three significant areas of technical innovation in power technology, all focused on improving reliability of the power system: fiber optic measurement of current, fiber optic measurement of voltage, and digital protection equipment.
