NYC Department of Administrative Services taps VFA for infrastructure condition assessment

September 6, 2004—VFA, Inc., a provider of software and services for facilities management and capital planning, announced it has been selected to serve as a subcontractor to ARAMARK Facility Services on a $2.5 million, two-year agreement with New York City’s Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).

Under the terms of the agreement with DCAS, ARAMARK and VFA assessed 53 buildings in New York City, including many of the city’s historic landmarks, such as City Hall and the Clock Tower Building. In addition to condition assessment services across its 13.4 million square feet of space, DCAS will use VFA’s Web-based capital planning software, VFA.facilityTM.

DCAS sought a technology-based solution that would help it reap the best return from its future building investments while still allowing the agency to protect its existing facility assets. Working with DCAS, ARAMARK selected VFA because its suite of software and services helps organizations make consistent comparisons between building requirements as well as identify areas where funds are most needed.

VFA’s software, VFA.facility, provides cost-estimating and project bundling tools that will enable city officials to categorize deferred maintenance and capital renewal projects for more effective decision-making and allocation of resources over the long-term.

As a result of deploying VFA.facility, DCAS expects it will be able to make sound facility investment decisions for the optimal operation of its building portfolio. In addition to implementing VFA.facility, VFA will also deliver its condition assessment methodology across more than 13.4 million square feet of space in DCAS’ building portfolio.

The combination of VFA’s software and services enables government property managers to allocate resources based on need, not demand rooted in crisis. Government organizations such as DCAS can also use VFA.facility to demonstrate that public funds have been invested wisely as well as report upcoming facility needs and related costs to funding authorities.
