February 1, 2002—A groundbreaking was recently held for the NYCyberCenter, a project designed to address the pressing energy concerns of power-intensive companies. It is the first major commercial real estate project to get underway in New York since Sept. 11. The 300,000-square-foot project will contain an on-site, independently certified co-generation facility. The NYCyberCenter is a collaborative effort among The Durst Organization and architects Fox & Fowle.
The NYCyberCenter will provide tenants with 100 watts-per-square-foot of uninterrupted power with high reliability and heat from the power operations will be used to produce chilled water to cool the building’s interior. The facility is expected to be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2003.
The facility is designed to eliminate the need for supplementary systems, including emergency generators, uninterrupted power sources, batteries, power conditioning and chillers. For more information, contact The Durst Organization.
