Occupational Hazards magazine names nation’s safest companies

October 7, 2005—Each year, Occupational Hazards magazine names its choices for the 12 safest companies in America. The 2005 selections, according to the magazine, all set their own standards for safety excellence.

The safest companies, according to the magazine, are: Amphenol AssembleTech Florida, Calpine Corp., Delta Airlines Inc., Fort Dearborn Co., Frito-Lay Inc., ISP Columbus, Keystone Wood Specialties Inc., Kinetic Systems Inc., Marathon Petroleum Co. LLC, Springs Window Fashions LP, Union Pacific Corp. and Westinghouse Savannah River Co.

According to the magazine, these companies have lost-time accident or injury rates well below their respective industries’ averages, and safety programs that have earned the “recognition and admiration” of their industry trade associations and federal and state occupational safety and health regulators. They also have employee involvement and empowerment in safety, as well as upper management commitment that goes beyond just lip service.
