Office furniture manufacturers lobby Congress to lift steel tariffs

October 4, 2002—The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer’s Association (BIFMA) International joined with member companies of the Consuming Industries Trade Action Coalition (CITAC) Steel Task Force recently in Washington, DC, to meet with government representatives and discuss the impact of steel tariffs on their businesses.

According to the coalition, the steel tariffs have resulted in steel shortages, massive price increases, and lead times increasing up to 60 percent.

CITAC members from eighteen states urged Congress to lift the tariffs as soon as possible. BIFMA member companies making visits included Haworth, Inc., Herman Miller, Inc., and Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company. Testimony presented at the Small Business Committee hearing is available from CITAC.
