OSHA alliance with mason contractors focuses on falls and scaffolding

April 7, 2004—The safety and health of workers in the masonry industry promises to benefit from a new alliance between the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The alliance will focus on reducing and preventing injuries and fatalities from workplace exposure to wall bracing, fall protection, scaffolding, and forklift hazards.

Both organizations have agreed to develop training and education programs on those issues, targeting mason contractors and their employees; to address the issues in Web-based electronic tools and other electric assistance products on both organizations’ Web sites; to cross-train personnel in the association’s best practices or effective approaches; and speak or otherwise participate in conferences, forums, etc.

MCAA is a national trade association of mason contracting firms. The Association provides contractor leadership in masonry promotion, codes and standards, workforce development, legislative and regulatory affairs, and contractor education.
