January 25, 2006—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has signed four new national alliances recently, highlighting safety and health in various industries.
OSHA and the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) allied to promote worker safety and health in the metalforming industry by reducing and preventing exposure to ergonomic related hazards and addressing press safety issues such as machine guarding and lockout/tagout to prevent amputations and other injuries.
OSHA’s alliance with the American Chemistry Council aims to promote high levels of safety and health performance and improved dialogue through OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) and the ACC’s Responsible Care initiative. ACC members have reportedly already achieved a worker safety record four-and-a-half times better than the average of US manufacturing companies and twice as safe as the business of chemistry overall.
OSHA formed an alliance with the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) and the Pulp and Paper Safety Association (PPSA) that focuses on preventing exposure to ergonomic-related hazards in the forest and paper-related industries
OSHA’s alliance with Altec Industries, a major manufacturer of cranes, aerial devices, and derricks, focuses on furthering the safety and health of utility, telecommunications, tree care, lights & signs, and construction workers. The alliance specifically addresses the safe operation of cranes, digger derricks, and insulated and non-insulated aerial devices (including tree care devices), with a focus on reducing fall and electrocution hazards.
