February 25, 2004—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has formed alliances with both the warehouse and automotive industries to enhance worker safety and health.
The International Warehouse Logistics Association (IWLA) joined with OSHA to improve worker safety and health in the areas of forklift operations, materials handling, hazard communication, and chemical safety. OSHA and IWLA will develop safety and health assistance tools for the industry, including a safety and health inspection checklist for warehouse managers, and will work together to develop a Web-based training tool (“e-Tool”) for the industry. They will develop and make available appropriate training and education programs, with a focus on Spanish-speaking workers.
The Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) joined with OSHA to address worker safety and health issues such as workplace vehicle safety, abrasive wheel machinery (including associated silica hazards), and ergonomics. The alliance provides CCAR affiliates and others in the automotive industry with information, guidance, and access to training resources. OSHA and CCAR plan to develop electronic assistance tools on vehicle safety. OSHA personnel and industry safety and health professionals will be cross-trained based on CCAR successful practices. The partners will also develop and disseminate case studies illustrating the business value of safety and health.
