February 18, 2004—Promoting safe and healthy employment conditions for workers is the goal of a new alliance, the first of its kind in the Caribbean, between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Rio Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR).
The two partners, through the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (DECEP for its Spanish acronym) and the Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety Office (OPASO), will create training and education programs for employers and employees in the construction, maritime, manufacturing, and services industries. Curricula will be developed on workplace safety and health through the DECEP’s Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health program.
