OSHA campaign offers safety resources for teen summer workers

May 9, 2008—The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently launched its 2008 Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign with help from SkillsUSA, an OSHA Alliance Program participant, to help ensure the safety of teenaged workers beginning summer jobs.

The multi-year, multi-venue project focuses on industries in which young people are likely to work during their high school and college years. This year’s campaign focuses on construction, with an emphasis on residential construction.

OSHA provides online information and resources to teenagers, parents, educators and employers to ensure safe and rewarding work experiences for these summer employees. Teen Workers offers details about workers’ rights and responsibilities, links to training and other educational tools, and state youth employment laws.

Teen Workers: Construction offers information about safety in construction, landscaping, restaurants, and other jobs. NIOSH’s Working Teen discusses the number of hours and types of jobs teenagers of various ages can work, their rights, on-the-job safety, and more.
