OSHA forms alliances for worker safety in various industries

January 9, 2006—The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) has formed and renewed several alliances this month to further protect workers in various industries.

OSHA formed new alliances with the American Forest & Paper Association and the Pulp and Paper Safety Association, stressing prevention of ergonomic-related hazards throughout the forest, pulp, paper and paper-converting industries; American Chemistry Council (ACC), with a focus on OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs and ACC’s Responsible Care initiative; and the Precision Metalforming Association, highlighting amputation and ergonomic-related hazards in the metalforming industry.

OSHA renewed its alliances with: the Society for Chemical Hazard Communication (SCHC) to continue providing information and education on hazard communication and chemical safety; The American Council of Independent Laboratories to further increase awareness of OSHA’s Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory program; and the Society of the Plastics Industry to continue promoting machine safety and help identify and eliminate machinery hazards that can cause amputations, burns and lacerations.
