OSHA offers first two safety seminars for healthcare facilities

August 19, 2002—As part of OSHA’s new national emphasis program focusing outreach and enforcement efforts on specific hazards in nursing and personal care facilities with high injury and illness rates, the agency has announced two free training seminars.

The training, to be held August 26, 2002 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and September 5, 2002 in Newton, Massachusetts, is designed for facilities operators, safety and health managers, hospital managers, and employee representatives from nursing and personal care facilities in each area.

Participants will receive training to identify and address the four major causes of worker injuries and illnesses in nursing facilities: ergonomic injuries related to resident handling; exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials; exposure to tuberculosis; and slips, trips, and falls. For more information or to register, call the Bridgeport area OSHA at 203/579-5581 or the Massachusetts Extended Care Federation at 617/558-0202.
