June 5, 2006—A new guide from the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) could help companies get their workplace first-aid programs up and running.
The guide, Best Practices Guide: Fundamentals of a Workplace First-Aid Program, identifies four essential elements for first-aid programs to be effective and successful. They include:
- Management leadership and employee involvement
- Worksite analysis
- Hazard prevention and control
- Safety and health training.
The publication also details the primary components of a first-aid program at the workplace and includes best practices for planning and conducting safe and effective first-aid training.
