September 26, 2003—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has added a new page to its Web site offering safety and health information for electrical contractors. The page provides information about the hazards that electrical workers may experience as a part of their jobs, including such obvious hazards as electrocution and shock as well as less obvious ones like chronic trauma disorder or minor back injury, which OSHA says actually occur more frequently. The page is maintained with IEC as a product of the OSHA-IEC Alliance.
The page provides links to useful resources concerning which standards apply to electrical work (including those most frequently cited, directives, and standard interpretations); information about hazards and solutions (ergonomic, falls, motor vehicle, and electrocution); and additional information.
