February 11, 2005—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently recognized several facilities for excellence in worker safety and health.
The Exxon Mobil Business and Research Centre in Macedon, New York, achieved renewed membership in the “Star” Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). OSHA especially commended the company, which has been a member of the VPP for 18 years, for its implementation of an off-the-job, after-work-hours safety committee and its safety education program for outside contractors. The facility employs 243 workers to research and test film packaging products.
The Pactiv Canandaigua Technical Center in Canandaigua, New York, also received renewed membership in the prestigious “Star” program. The US Postal Services Processing and Distribution Center in Syracuse, New York, earned new membership in the “Star” program. OSHA particularly noted the facility’s safety and health programs dealing with ergonomic exposures, control of vehicle movement in loading dock operations, and the makeup of its medical emergency response team. The facility employs 585 workers and processes approximately 1.5 million pieces of mail daily.
Newark, Delaware-based GE Power Systems Composites also received a new membership in the VPP “Star” Program, commended by OSHA for their excellent worker safety and health program.
Also, Goodyear Chemical of Niagara Falls, New York, which produces rubber antioxidant/antiozonant used in the manufacture of tires, was designated as a VPP “Merit” site. OSHA noted that the company has taken positive steps to make its worksite safer and more healthful and has done an excellent job of integrating employees into the plant’s safety management system.
