May 30, 2005—The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has unveiled a new safety and health topics page that provides Web-based assistance for workers and employers in the landscape and horticultural service industry. The page is a product of OSHA’s alliance with the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET).
Employers and workers can access information to develop and implement comprehensive safety and health programs, and link to sites that identify the most common industry hazards and possible solutions to those hazards. The page also provides employer and employee resources for Spanish-speaking workers and youth workers in the industry.
On the site, the various landscape and horticultural services are organized into three main segments: landscape design, landscape planting and construction, and lawn maintenance and tree care. Each service category includes information on relevant OSHA standards. The page also includes a link to a new Safety Tips Sheet (in English and Spanish) with information on slip and trip injuries common to the industry.
