March 23, 2007—Otis, a unit of United Technologies Corp. has been awarded a contract to supply and install 111 elevators and escalators for the renovation of the Beijing South Railway Station, an important infrastructure project supporting the Beijing 2008 Olympic Summer Games.
In total, Otis has won 25 Beijing 2008 Olympics-related contracts, including the Beijing Subway Line 5 and Line 10, Tianjin Olympics Sports Center soccer venue, Beijing Transit Center and Tianjin Light Rail.
In this latest project, Otis will provide 75 escalators and 36 Gen2 machine-roomless elevators with flat-belt technology. When completed in 2007, the new station will be the second largest in Beijing and will serve the intercity line between Beijing and Tianjin and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail.
