Outsourcing failing to deliver, says guru

Outsourcing usually achieves under half the potential benefits, according to a leading outsourcing commentator.

Speaking at a London Conference on TUPE regulations and outsourcing contracts, Bob Aylott of Orbys Consulting will say: “Most outsourcing deals get less than 50% of the benefits available—professional procurement managers and lawyers alone will never get anywhere near the 100% superdeal.”

Aylott talks about achieving the ‘superdeal’ needed to get the full benefits of outsourcing. “Entrepreneurial outsourcing is what the superdeal takes. This demands a very special portfolio of skills and expertise, including subject experts, risk takers, entrepreneurs, business strategists and lateral thinkers.

“The skills portfolio in practice is a team task—the deal making team normally operates best under pressure, achieving way beyond what normal procurement practices believe possible.”

Aylott joined Orbys following almost 10 years with management consultancy KPMG as an outsourcing specialist. Orbys Consulting are specialist advisers on sourcing, outsourcing and resourcing, including IT, finance, tax, HR, third party administration, customer relationship management, facilities and other business processes and support functions.
