Owens Corning teams up with Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments

January 19, 2005—Building materials manufacturer Owens Corning has accepted an invitation to join the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments (the Sustainability Alliance), a select group of manufacturers that works actively with the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and others to promote environmentally, socially and economically conscious business practices in both the commercial and residential building, as well as automotive, industries.

A consortium of companies embracing sustainability as the right approach for conducting business, the goals of the Sustainability Alliance include educating the building industry about sustainability, reducing the impact that built environments have on the natural environment and demonstrating green thinking as a successful business strategy. The group is also involved in furthering the USGBC’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.

The Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments invited Owens Corning to join based on the company’s history of commitment to green operations and product offerings, as well as its recognition of sustainability as a critical part of the business strategy. Participation will allow Owens Corning to further its heritage of delivering valuable solutions to its customers and offer opportunities to leverage critical partnerships within the marketplace.

Current members of the Sustainability Alliance include Johnson Controls, Philips Lighting Company, JohnsonDiversey, Forbo Flooring and Milliken Carpet.

The Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments is a group of industry leaders who practice and are recognized for leadership in sustainability, which encompasses economic, social and environmental responsibility. The Alliance is committed to delivering high performance green solutions for the built environment. It will continuously educate and demonstrate that sustainability and environmental performance are viable business development strategies for its members and for their customers.
