October 25, 2004—PA Consulting Group announced the winners of the 2004 ReliabilityOne Awards during a ceremony held on October 21, 2004 in San Francisco, CA. The annual ReliabilityOne Awards honor the utilities with the most reliable electric delivery systems in North America.
2003 Awards were given in five categories including Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Plains, West and Community Utility. Winners are chosen using a rigorous, quantitatively driven process to identify the very best performers in each region of North America. Each award recipient undergoes both a quantitative analysis of their performance based on electric industry standard reliability indices and a qualitative review of their reliability systems, processes, and procedures.
This year’s winners are:
- Kansas City Power & Light for the Plains Region
- Public Service Electric & Gas for the Mid-Atlantic Region
- Roseville Electric for the Community Utility
- Southern California Edison for the Western Region
- We Energies for the Midwest.
The 2004 National Award Winner is We Energies. We Energies, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with approximately 1.1 million customers, is recognized for achieving superior reliability performance in its region, sustaining and improving this performance over time and leading the industry toward a more reliable future by adopting innovative information systems, accelerating response to major events and advancing regional grid security.
PA’s primary source of reliability data is our industry-leading Transmission and Distribution Benchmarking Program, the most comprehensive and detailed source of North American cost, reliability and best practice data available in the industry. Once preliminary winners are chosen, each company undergoes an on-site certification process, which provides an independent review of the policies, processes and systems used to collect, analyze and report a company’s reliability results.
This year’s winners show outstanding dedication to reliable electrical service, with the lowest outage rates in each of their regions in North America. A winner was not selected in the Northeast for 2003, due to the impact of the August 14 blackout and a winner in the Southeast could not be certified, due to the current workload caused by this year’s unprecedented storm damage from hurricanes.
