April 11, 2005—The US Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Pennsylvania’s commitment to clean energy development by naming the Commonwealth a “Green Power Partner.”
EPA’s Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that seeks to reduce the environmental effects of conventional electricity generation by building demand for green power.
In order to become a Green Power Partner, entities agree to replace a portion of their electrical load with green power within one year. In return, EPA provides procurement assistance and public recognition. Pennsylvania has committed to purchase 34,800 megawatt hours of wind attributes annually, and the state will be listed among EPA’s Top 25 Green Power Partners.
