September 19, 2003—Governor Edward G. Rendell has announced the release of funds for capital construction projects at 11 Pennsylvania universities.
The approved projects approved include:
- Bloomsburg University, Columbia County—$681,000 for furniture and equipment for the Hartline Science Center.
- Cheyney University, Delaware County—$3.85 million for restoration, repair and replacement of automatic temperature control systems and enhanced building management systems as well as installation of safety systems in E&G buildings.
- East Stroudsburg University, Monroe County—$773,000 for additional construction of the Science and Technology Center; $1.85 million for the acquisition of 37.1 acres of land to help meet the University’s projected parking and athletic field needs.
- Edinboro University, Erie County—$2.267 million to renovate or replace Heather Hall, a 20,222-square-foot music facility that contains classrooms, practice rooms and faculty offices.
- Kutztown University, Berks County—$2.202 million for construction of a 22,000-square-foot Advanced High Technology Classroom Building to house multiple large advanced high technology classroom.
- Lincoln University, Chester County—$3.5 million for improvements to the Ware Center, including replacement of the roof, auditorium seating, stage rigging, lighting and stage curtains, and windows and doors; and repairs to the heating and emergency lighting systems; $3.03 million for major restoration/renovation of University Hall for continued use as classrooms and faculty and administrative offices.
- Lock Haven University, Clinton County—$1.44 million to restore a conduit carrying Lusk Run under University property. The project is required to meet current health and safety requirements.
- Millersville University, Lancaster County—$2.863 million to renovate Wickersham Hall and provide a technologically advanced teacher education facility.
- Penn State University, Centre County—$18.5 million for construction of a new Forest Resources Building at the University Park campus.
- Shippensburg University, Cumberland County—$1.985 million for furniture and equipment at the Instructional Arts facility.
- West Chester University, Chester County—$2.121 million for a renovation project with three components: replacing a remaining 1970-vintage high-voltage electric distribution system, replacing an assortment of obsolete and difficult-to-maintain fire alarm systems in 33 campus buildings with a modern system, and installing new site lighting and fixtures.
