December 12, 2001—Crisis Management Initiative, launched recently by giant software company Peregrine Systems, Inc., is designed to arm businesses and government agencies with solutions to protect people and critical assets during crisis situations. Peregrine has also developed the product blueprint to assure a swift and effective coordinated response to unexpected events ranging from terrorist attacks to natural disasters.
Under the initiative for homeland security, Peregrine is adapting its platform technologies and asset management software solutions to provide tools required to prepare for, respond to, and recover from crisis situations. Bolstered by recent acquisitions, Peregrine has the ability to create and customize software that unifies actions among multiple software applications that cross government agency and organizational boundaries.
As the foundation of Crisis Management the Peregrine Crisis Response System product-now in prototype form-will provide the underlying technology for a “command-and-control” system, empowering an organization to prepare for and instantly respond to crisis situations. Built on the firm’s Action Request System (AR System) development platform and Business Integration Suite, the software product is currently in development and is expected to be available for sale in the first quarter of 2002.
Peregrine’s Crisis Management product family will provide ability in a number of areas. Among them: Collaborate and share data immediately with real-time views of assets, including people and equipment within and across entities; implement change processes to restore back-ups, enact emergency environment changes, replace lost assets, trigger manual or automatic events and escalate as necessary; secure and manage secured sites by displaying CAD drawings of fixed security elements. There are many more. LMI, a non-profit organization based in McLean, Virginia, will join Peregrine in developing Crisis Management Capabilities.
Peregrine’s Business Integration Suite, included as part of the Crisis Management Initiative, provides the ability to link disparate applications, data formats, and organizational processes, either behind a secure firewall or working over encrypted communications on public networks, such as Peregrine’s Get2Connect business integration network. This technology will permit multiple agencies running different software applications and accessing unique data sources to coordinate actions and share information with disparate entities.
