PG&E uses renewable energy to power Schwarzenegger inauguration

January 29, 2007—Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) teamed up with Joseph Gallo Farms and Microgy, Inc., on January 4 to provide clean, renewable energy to power Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Leading the Green Dream” inauguration celebration for his second term.

PG&E used manure digester biogas from Joseph Gallo Farms, biodiesel made from soybean oil, and a 3-kilowatt solar installation from Akeena Solar. PG&E also purchased carbon dioxide reductions from the Van Eck Forest in Humboldt County to make all the energy used to power this event carbon neutral.

The greenhouse gases typically emitted from the conventional resources normally used to power comparable events were cut in half by using these renewable energy sources, says PG&E. For more information, visit PG&E’s Web site.
